What is depression? Everyone occasionally feels blue or sad, but these feelings are usually fleeting and pass within a couple of days. When a woman has a depressive disorder, it interferes with daily life and normal functioning, and causes pain for both the woman with the disorder and those who care about her. Depression is a common but serious illness, and most who have it need treatment to get better.
Depression affects both men and women, but more women than men are likely to be diagnosed with depression in any given year.1 Efforts to explain this difference are ongoing, as researchers explore certain factors (biological, social, etc.) that are unique to women.
Many women with a depressive illness never seek treatment. But the vast majority, even those with the most severe depression, can get better with treatment.

Menopausal symptoms affect about 70 percent of women approaching menopause. Typical symptoms, such as hot flashes or night sweats, are caused by changing hormonal levels in the female reproductive system. Almost all women notice early symptoms while still having periods. This stage of changing hormone levels is called perimenopause and usually begins in the early 40s. Early menopause symptoms may also include irregular periods, sleep difficulties, decreased sex drive, vaginal dryness, and irritability.

In my mother’s generation, most women stayed at home and cared for their children while their husbands went to work to bring home the bacon. The mother’s job was to care for the children, prepare nutritious meals, keep the house spic-and-span, and run the household smoothly. Mothers volunteered at church and school. They sometimes supplemented the family income with a part-time job or helped cut expenses by sewing clothing for the family and clipping coupons.
Today it’s rare for women my age and younger not to work.

To replace a woman’s depleting hormone levels, synthetic estrogen and progesterone are designed called hormone replacement therapy. Hormone replacement therapy helps to relieve the dryness in vagina or pain during urination caused by menopausal symptoms.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is helpful in easing the pain and the discomfort that a woman experiences while going through menopause when her hormones level decrease. During her reproductive years, a woman’s ovaries produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone which work to help in menstrual cycle, sexual characteristics and prepare the body for fertilization and reproduction. But when the age of menopause is reached, these hormones are produced less and less and thus, hormone replacement therapy is required to deal with the pain and the dryness and to make this period comfortable. Benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy
